Dr. Cheryl Pfeffer
Cheryl Pfeffer DVM, CVA is a native of Oklahoma. She grew up in the Shawnee area and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a Veterinarian. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1990 and her DVM degree in 1995 from Oklahoma State University.
During Veterinary School, she completed an internship in Exotic Animal Medicine at Kansas State University, where she had the opportunity to work with two zoos.
After graduation, she and her husband moved to Dallas where she worked with both companion animals and exotic animals. She came home to Oklahoma in 2005 where she has continued to work with all of the pets that she loves and joined the family of Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital in 2010.
Dr. Cheryl Pfeffer loves being able to make a difference in the lives of her patients and their people. She enjoys working with furry, scaled, and feathered family members. Her special interests are dermatology, ultrasound, endocrinology, internal medicine, orthopedic, soft tissue surgery, feline medicine, exotic pet medicine, acupuncture, and herbal therapy.
In her free time she likes to spend it with her husband, James, her three children, three dogs, and one cat. She also likes painting, sewing and gardening.
Dr. Pfeffer is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, the Tulsa County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Avian Veterinarian. She also received her Acupuncture certification at the Chi Institute in Florida.
Dr. Alison Vanderhoof
Alison Vanderhoof DVM, CVA is originally from Texas but went to school at OSU to obtain her Bachelors and DVM degrees. After graduation, she was excited to make Tulsa her new home and when the opportunity arose to work at Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital it seemed like the perfect fit.
Dr. Vanderhoof says AMSH feels like home and loves that her job brings something new every day. She also likes building relationships with the pets and their owners with the intention to provide the best care possible for a lifetime.
Watching pets grow and overcome obstacles is just one reason why Dr. Vanderhoof finds her job rewarding. Another reason she loves being at AMSH is having the opportunity to learn new things from other doctors at the hospital. She finds the support system and family dynamic a huge contributor to her success.
Dr. Vanderhoof has been married for 18 years and has one son named Cormac. Her four legged companions consist of a dog, cat, and a rabbit! Speaking of rabbits, that is one of Dr. Vanderhoof’s special interests as a Veterinarian. She has quite the soft spot for them and provides excellent care to anyone needing services for their bunny.
During her time as a Veterinarian, Dr. Vanderhoof completed her certification in acupuncture at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine. This practice helps all kinds of ailments such as pain, arthritis, and even GI problems. She also is a part of the Oklahoma Veterinary Medicine Association and the Tulsa County Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Liz Thomas
Liz Thomas DVM was born in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma State University where she obtained both her undergrad and DVM.
Dr. Thomas knew from a young age that she was interested in working with animals. Throughout school she also enjoyed science and biology so she decided to put all of her talents together and be a Veterinarian!
What brought her to Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital was one of her own furry companions, Heidi. Her dog was in need of acupuncture and after coming to the hospital and meeting the doctors, she realized she could call the facility her home as well.
Dr. Thomas’ special interests include dermatology, feline medicine, and feline behavior. She hopes her knowledge can further help her patients and owners bond and keep pets staying healthy.
At home Dr. Thomas has two children with her high school sweetheart, Mitch. She also has two pets of her own; a cat named White Foot whom she found in a dumpster while in college and a St. Bernard named Hudson who is from the same breeder as her last 2 Bernard's that she has owned.
In her free time she likes to exercise and take care of all her plants inside and outside! She has almost 20 houseplants and enjoys being able to watch them grow. She also is a part of the Oklahoma Veterinary Medicine Association.
Dr. Katie McClain
Katie McClain DVM, CCRP grew up in Indianapolis and attended Purdue University for both undergraduate and Veterinary school.
Dr. McClain and her husband , Dr. Andrew McClain, moved with their two children from Florida to Tulsa to pursue their dream jobs. Dr. McClain loves pets and teaching and believes being a Veterinarian is the best of both worlds. Her main goal is to advocate for her patients and she is able to do that through educating her clients.
She has a strong interest in small animal medicine, emergency surgery, and dentistry. Her biggest love, however, is integrative medicine including physical rehabilitation, multimodal pain management, and geriatric medicine.
Dr. McClain enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, fishing, camping, and rock climbing. Along with her two kids; Wiley and Gemma, she has two dogs, three cats, and one bunny.
She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, and has completed certification in Canine Rehabilitation and Therapy through the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Alexis Gullic
Alexis Gullic DVM is from Tulsa but went to the University of Missouri for Veterinary School after obtaining her Bachelors Degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma State University.
Before graduating at MIZZOU, she did her externship at Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital and decided the facility was a great fit for her because of the incredible mentors and support system it provided. She now brings a whole new dynamic to the hospital offering canine reproduction.
On top of her interest for reproduction medicine, she also enjoys ophthalmology and dentistry. In order to grow her list of skills, she hopes to eventually provide wildlife rehab.
When Dr. Gullic isn't working, you can find her playing video games, reading fiction novels, or hanging out with her fiancé, Jake. Her and Jake share two dogs of their own; Mickey and Minnie. Mickey is a long haired dachshund who loves squeaker toys and Minnie is a miniature schnauzer who likes to cuddle under blankets.
Dr. Gullic is a part of the Oklahoma Veterinary Medicine Association and looks forward to helping all patients to keep them happy and healthy and care for those who are in need of medical attention.
Dr. Kent Stacy
Dr. Kent Stacy DVM is from small town Oktaha but graduated alongside Dr. Thomas and Dr. Vanderhoof at Oklahoma State University in 2016.
While in junior college, Dr. Stacy found his love for the veterinary field while interning at a local practice. He says the best thing about Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital is the relationship between the doctors. He likes how everyone is always ready to help each other and expand their skills.
Dr. Stacy's special interests include pet wellness, urgent care, and dermatology. He hopes during his time at AMSH he'll able to expand the surgery space.
Outside of work, Dr. Stacy enjoys traveling, eating, and going to family events. He also loves to watch classic Disney movies. Although he has many favorites, he likes Swiss Family Robinson the best.
Dr. Stacy is proud to be a part of the American Veterinarian Medical Association and looks forward to being able to help pets in the Tulsa and surrounding areas.
Kathy GarrisonPractice Manager
Kathy Garrison is the Practice Manager of Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital. She oversees all bookkeeping, payroll administration, budgeting, establishing clinic procedures and overseeing client relations. When Kathy isn't busy working at the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her best friend and husband, Thom, her children, and grandchildren along with her fur babies. She also enjoys spending time at her lodge, known as Stone Creek Lodge- with family and friends, traveling, hiking, camping, participating in survival clinics, gardening and reading in a hammock. Kathy has been a part of the AMSH family since year 2001 and is a vital member of our team. We say she is the heart of the hospital.
Caitlan TreatHospital Manager
Caitlan Treat is the Hospital Manager of Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital. She oversees all of the staff management and scheduling, inventory control, and product management. Caitlan also grew up a military brat which stemmed her love for traveling the world. When Caitlan isn't busy working at the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, Nike and Stetson, and continuing her education. She is currently double majoring in Forensics and Psychology at Colorado State. We are extremely lucky that she has been apart of the AMSH since 2017.
Katy, Sara, Rachel, Sydni, Zahara, and Kay are the first smiles that you see when you enter either one of our Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital locations. They make sure that you and your pet are taken care of and answer any questions you may have.
Nurse & Nurse Assistants
Melissa, Cody, Bree, Ellen, Tiffanee, Juli, Ashleigh, Alex, Kindra, Kam, Sarah, Kinley, Alexis, Bailey, Kate, Holly, and Brittney are our highly trained nurse and nurse assistants. They take great pride in making sure that all of your pets needs are met while they're in the hospital.
Jenny, Joe, Josie, Abigail, Kristina, and Conner are our top notch kennel staff that make sure your pet is pampered and cared for while you're away. They work 7 days a week to ensure your pet gets the proper care like feeding and administering medications. We also offer add on services such as; extra playtime, special food, bathing, and more!
