Rehabilitation Therapy uses multiple treatments that are non-invasive to rehabilitate patients to become more mobile and pain free. We are pleased to have Dr. McClain on our team; a certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner at Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital East. She specializes in helping animals dealing with arthritis, postoperative injuries, and degenerative diseases. Her favorite part of pet rehabilitation is the bond she forms with her clients and patients.

Here are some of the goals we hope to see your pet achieve during rehab:

-Decrease pain

-Improve mobility

-Increase strength

-Aid in weight loss

-Improve function

-Restore full range of motion to injured or diseased body parts

-Improve neurologic function

-Condition athletes

-Help with weight bearing

A physical examination is the first step to see if your pet would be a great candidate for this type of therapy. Upon arrival, Dr. McClain will do a full examination of your pet and start building trust and a relationship. She’s able to help both cats and dogs. She also offers rehabilitation packages that consist of frequent visits for better results. Dr. McClain will send you home with how-to videos to explain what was done during each therapy session and what you can do with your pets during down time. It is beneficial to do rehabilitation therapy at home as you are more likely to achieve faster results. While there are a number of different ways to get your pet back on their feet, here are some rehabilitation modalities we use at our hospital:

-Therapeutic exercises to help strength, balance, and proprioception

-Massage

-Passive range of motion exercises

-Electrical stimulation

-Heat therapy

-Cryotherapy

-Land treadmill

AMSH East works hard to get pets back to their normal selves and treats each patient case by case by giving them their own individual therapy plan. Most therapy sessions will start off weekly and as progress is made, it is then up to you and your doctor how far out they will be. Give the AMSH East location a call today to see if your pet would be a great candidate for this incredible type of therapy. We’re committed to keeping your pet happy and healthy for a lifetime!
